What is the Dragonkind Threshing Day game?

In Rebecca Yarros's Empyrean series, Threshing is the day first-year cadets in the Riders Quadrant walk into the Vale and the dragons decide who is worthy. Some cadets bond. Some do not come back. In the books, Threshing always falls on October 1.

Fittingly, on October 1, 2026, alongside the Threshing Day book, Rebecca Yarros launched Dragonkind, an official choose-your-own-adventure Threshing game at dragonkind.com. It needs an email sign-up, and if a dragon burns you, you wait four hours to try again.

This site is a fan-made companion to the Dragonkind Threshing Day game: a quick Threshing quiz that sorts you into a wing, section and squad, lets you retry the moment you get burned, plus guides for the official game. Read the full Dragonkind game guide.

Dragon colors you can bond

There are six dragon colors in the Threshing quiz. Here is what each one says about you.

Red Dragon portrait

Red Dragon

Fire first, questions later.

You lead with courage and instinct. When the Vale goes quiet, you are the cadet who steps forward instead of waiting to be chosen.

Orange Dragon portrait

Orange Dragon

Unpredictable and impossible to ignore.

You thrive on chaos and improvisation. Plans are suggestions, and you are at your best when nobody, including you, knows what comes next.

Brown Dragon portrait

Brown Dragon

Never show a brown your fear.

You are the one the squad leans on. Loyal, grounded and patient, you would rather outlast a problem than rush it.

Green Dragon portrait

Green Dragon

Logic over impulse.

You think before you move. Where other cadets panic, you read the terrain, weigh the odds and pick the smartest path through the Vale.

Blue Dragon portrait

Blue Dragon

Massive, ruthless and feared.

You carry yourself with quiet intensity. You do not need the spotlight, but anyone who threatens your people learns how sharp you are.

Black Dragon portrait

Black Dragon

The rarest bond in the Vale.

You were not supposed to survive this, and you did anyway. Black dragons choose riders others underestimate, and they rarely choose at all.
